MONICA GUERRITORE
Attrice di fama internazionale, esordisce a teatro nel 1974 a soli sedici anni sotto la regia di Giorgio Strehler ne Il giardino dei ciliegi di Anton Čechov. Interpreta ruoli complessi diretta da Gabriele Lavia, come Giocasta, Lady Macbeth, Ofelia e Marianne in Scene da un matrimonio di Ingmar Bergman che le varrà nel 1998 il Premio Flaiano. Si cimenta in spettacoli di teatro/danza come Madame Bovary, Carmen, La Signora delle Camelie diretti da Giancarlo Sepe. Accanto alla carriera teatrale Guerritore porta avanti quella televisiva debuttando nel 1977 nel primo sceneggiato Rai a colori: Manon Lescaut. In grado di interpretare ruoli sofisticati, Guerritore recita in film cult italiani dal forte contenuto sessuale, ma è la sua performance nel grande successo La lupa (Lavia, 1996) che nel 1997 le vale la candidatura come migliore attrice protagonista ai David di Donatello. Nel 2008 conquista consensi al Festival d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia grazie alla pellicola Un giorno perfetto di Ferzan Ozpetek. Il film La bella gente (Ivano De Matteo, 2009) le vale la medesima candidatura ai Nastri d’argento del 2016.
La pellicola vince il Festival di Annecy e riscuote in Francia notevole successo. Non solo attrice e interprete, Guerritore si sperimenta come regista e drammaturga di spettacoli di grandissimo successo come Giovanna d’Arco (rappresentato attualmente in Francia), Dall’Inferno all’Infinito (scelto per inaugurare le Olimpiadi di italiano all’Accademia della Crusca e la giornata di lavoro su Dante nell’Aula Magna dell’Università la Sapienza di Roma). Mi chiedete di parlare, un testo su Oriana Fallaci da lei scritto e interpretato, conquista il Festival di Spoleto (luglio 2011). I suoi ultimi lavori sono L’anima buona di Sezuan nell’edizione di Giorgio Strehler del 1981. E Ginger&Fred di Federico Fellini da lei adattato per il teatro. A breve il debutto alla regia cinematografica con un film su Anna Magnani Anna – Una Voce Umana. Nel 2011 e’ stata nominata dal Presidente Giorgio Napolitano Commendatore al Merito della Repubblica Italiana per il suo impegno nel campo delle Arti e della Cultura. Nel 2014 è stata presidente della Giuria dei Letterati del Premio Campiello.
An internationally renowned actress, she made her debut in theatre in 1974 at the age of sixteen under the direction of Giorgio Strehler in Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard.” She takes on complex roles directed by Gabriele Lavia, such as Jocasta, Lady Macbeth, Ophelia, and Marianne in Ingmar Bergman’s “Scenes from a Marriage,” for which she won the “Flaiano Prize” in 1998. She ventures into theatre/dance performances like “Madame Bovary,” “Carmen,” and “The Lady of the Camellias,” directed by Giancarlo Sepe. Alongside her theatrical career, Guerritore also pursues a television career, debuting in 1977 in the first colour TV drama by Rai: “Manon Lescaut.” Thanks to her ability in portraying sophisticated roles, Guerritore acts in Italian cult films with strong sexual content. Her performance in the blockbuster “The She-Wolf” (Lavia, 1996) earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the “David di Donatello” Awards in 1997. In 2008, she received acclaim at the Venice Film Festival for Ferzan Ozpetek’s film “A Perfect Day.” The film “The Beautiful People” (Ivano De Matteo, 2009) earned her the same nomination at the Silver Ribbon Award in 2016.
The film won the Annecy Festival and achieved significant success in France. Besides being an actress and performer, Guerritore also experiments as a director and playwright of highly successful shows such as “Joan of Arc” (currently staged in France), “From Hell to Infinity” (chosen to inaugurate the Italian Olympics at the Accademia della Crusca and the day dedicated to Dante in the Aula Magna of La Sapienza University in Rome). Her piece “You Ask Me to Speak,” about Oriana Fallaci, which she wrote and performed, won the Spoleto Festival (July 2011). Her latest works include “The Good Soul of Szechuan” in Giorgio Strehler’s 1981 edition and “Ginger & Fred” by Federico Fellini, which she adapted for the Theatre. She is soon to debut as a film director with a movie about Anna Magnani, “Anna – A Human Voice.” In 2011, she was appointed “Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic” by President Giorgio Napolitano for her contributions to the Arts and Culture. In 2014, she was the president of the “Giuria dei Letterati” (Literary Jury) of the Campiello Prize.
